The candidates of any election often create negative commercials about the other candidate. For Example, in this political cartoon Beverly Perdue is being depicted as saying “That her campaign cannot work with those big money out-of-state pacs. By law, we cannot keep them out of North Carolina politics.” Therefore, this shows how she uses loopholes in the laws to air negative commercials about her opponent. She also states that “by law we cannot stop them from airing those negative, unfortunate attacks on Pat McCrory. Luckily there is no law against gloating.” Also, this shows how Beverly finds loopholes in the North Carlina law and uses them to her advantage. She seems to be very happy about this. In this picture, Beverly is depicted as having on a business suit and a big button that says Bev Perdue 2008. Furthermore, this shows that Beverly is trying to promote her campaign. She is also showing support in herself. As you can see, many politicians find ways around the law to get what they want.

The republican candidates are not always informed about their running mates. In this cartoon there are three people standing next to each other. In between two normal citizens is John McCain. The man next to him is reading a newspaper that says New Revelations on the front page. This shows that this man is revealing something he finds interesting. Furthermore, this cartoon shows the man reading the newspaper saying, “Given your attention to detail, just how thoroughly did you screen Sarah Palin?” Then McCain says “who…?”. This also shows that McCain should be more informed about his running mate. To go more in depth, he did not even know whom the man was talking about. This just comes to show how the republican party is being depicted as uniformed and uneducated.
Sarah Palin believes that she has enough experience to become vice president but I beg to differ. For example, in this cartoon Sarah Palin’s passport is open and at the bottom it says “Word-free leader of the world”. This represents her experience and where she has been in life. Also in this cartoon, at the top of one of the pages it says “Country stamps here” and this page is empty. This shows that she has no experience and is not qualified for the job. Therefore, many do believe that Sarah Palin is no the best vice presidential candidate.Essential Question
There are many ways in which the society affects the individual and how the individual affects the society. These cartoons show mainly the bad side of a presidential campaign which helps society decide who to vote for. However, the presidential candidates are who they are because of the society. If the society wants someone that is for gun rights then that candidate will most likely be for gun rights even if they are personally against it.
